More recently, following an association with the Black Lives Matter movement, the Lendy Memorial was temporarily encased in mirror-like boxing.
This was erected in 1895 on King's Lawn opposite St Mary's church. It was moved to Benwell House after sustaining bomb damage in the Second World War, and in 1986 it was relocated to the Walled Garden. Click here for more background.
